Ok, so you know you are worth the wait, but how do you keep that promise?
Think of the things you want to accomplish in your life. Make a plan to help you reach these goals. Remind yourself of your goals often and stay on the track to making them happen. Be aware that the consequesnes to having sex- physical and emotional -will distract you from reaching your goals. Keep in mind that every step you take towards having sex makes it harder for you to continue to say NO!
Have someone to keep you "in check." Tell your best friend, your sibling or someone who has your best interest in mind that this is your plan. Give them permission to let you know when you are getting to close to the line. This person should help you say no to drugs and alcohol, help you stay clear of situations that would jeopardize your decision, and help you keep your goals in mind.
And certainly follow the dating guidelines. Avoid dating as long as you can, date only in public places, date in front of your families, pick someone with similar values to date and communicate your desire to remain abstinent to him/her, avoid drugs and alcohol, date someone close to your age, keep your life balanced between family, friends, academics, extra curricular and your girlfriend/boyfriend.
